With the warmth of the Gulf Stream, the gardens of Cornwall are home to a wealth of the most exciting, rare and beautiful plants and trees in the British Isles. There are many varied and magical gardens to visit and these are just a few local suggestions.
Lost Gardens of Heligan Pentewan Saint Austell, PL26 6EN 01726 845100 www.heligan.com | Heligan, seat of the Tremayne family for more than 400 years, is one of the most mysterious estates in England and at the end of the 19th Century, its thousand acres were at their most magnificent. However decades of neglect took their toll, and in 1990 a project was established to bring these once glorious gardens back to life in every sense and to tell, for the first time, not tales of lords and ladies but of those “ordinary” people who had made these gardens great, before departing for the Great War. Now in this steep-sided valley garden, you can get lost in the luxurious planting, including a banana plantation and the largest collection of tree ferns in Europe. |

A sub-tropical paradise with a stunning coastal backdrop, it’s one of the Great Gardens of Cornwall and rated among the 80 finest gardens in the world.
